Assistant Controller
Location: Hybrid in Hanover, MD
Salary Range: $100,000-$125,000
Agency Insurance Company is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing financial operations and ensuring accurate GAAP and statutory reporting. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and experience in the property & casualty insurance industry.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and financial reporting under GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
- Lead and support preparation of NAIC Annual and Quarterly Statements, regulatory filings, and related financial schedules
- Oversee investment and reinsurance accounting, account reconciliations, and general ledger activities
- Maintain strong internal controls and regulatory compliance while supporting internal and external audits
- Manage and mentor accounting staff while identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA preferred, with 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Property & casualty insurance experience, including knowledge of SAP/STAT, NAIC reporting, investment accounting, and reinsurance accounting, is strongly preferred
